BXTRA with Chance

–Tatyana Turner

Eclectic meets eerie at Bronx Ink, that’s where you’ll find Chance, the extraordinary tattoo artist. His shop is located on the Third Avenue section of the Bronx where I had the pleasure of meeting with him yesterday ( September 5, 2017).

This was not my first encounter with Chance; we met back in 2016 and I made an impromptu visit to his shop to complete a project for my photography class at Temple University. Below, you will find the book, “Part of Me,” which describes Chance’s life and why he got into tattooing in the first place.

As for yesterday, we sat in front of his fish tank for our little Q&A session, in it, he gives some advice to aspiring tattoo artists that could be applied to just about any occupation.

“Everyday is not going to be Christmas,” said Chance. ” There will be some days you $0.”

In this particular message, you have to read between the lines. It’s not about what you don’t have…it’s what you do have. Perseverance.  When pursing a passion, some go into their field of choice with the notion that everything will fall into place…especially their bank account.

The truth is you will face days where you’ll make no money, people will doubt you, you will doubt yourself, and things remains stagnant. However, if you persevere through the dark times in the valley and trust the process; a great outcome will yield.
